Welcome

Welcome to Cottage Grove United Church of Christ (CGUCC) where you will be known and supported in your faith journey! We encourage you to explore our site and take a look at everything we have to offer you and your family. We are confident that you will find Cottage Grove UCC to be a place where you can experience God and connect with others. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us. We would love for you to come and see what God is doing at CGUCC by attending a Sunday morning worship service or trying out a small group ministry.

You’ll find our physical site located in rural East Cottage Grove on the corner of Lamar and 70th Street across from the Lamar Ball Fields. For nearly 160 years our congregation has had a presence on this corner making us “old” in age only. Our thinking is open-minded, our music is a pleasing blend of classic and contemporary with JC Rock as our praise band, and our worship is vibrant, fresh and alive with lessons for living in today’s world with Christ. We have one service beginning at 10:15 each Sunday morning. It includes music with JC Rock our praise band, as well as hymns, scriptures, a time with the children, a sermon, prayers, offering and a blessing. It is vibrant and filled with life and love.

What to Expect

We want your experience at Cottage Grove UCC to be excellent and memorable! From enlightening and fun children’s ministries to inspirational worship and messages, our Sunday morning worship is a place where you can encounter the life-changing presence of God. Below you will find some helpful information on what to expect when you arrive at a service. We want your visit to feel as comfortable as possible, so be sure to contact us if you should have any questions; you can also ask a greeter, usher, or any member with a name tag on the day you arrive.

A printed bulletin, given to you by the ushers inside the door of the sanctuary, includes everything you need to participate in the service. In addition much of the worship order and wording is projected on a large screen to the left of the altar area. Our service offers opportunities for you to participate by reading, singing, praying, and listening – to scripture readings, the sermon, and to music. At the beginning of service, we greet each other and pass the peace of Christ.

Communion is offered at the 10:15 a.m. service on the first Sunday of the month. At Cottage Grove UCC, all are welcome at Christ’s table, no matter where you are on your spiritual journey. You will be given clear instructions on Communion Sunday as to the way in which the sacraments will be offered that day.

At all of our services, we follow the ancient Christian practice of receiving an offering to support the Church’s ministries. We welcome your gifts and encourage everyone to consider how to best live a life of generosity. If you are unable to give financially, please consider an offering of time or talent to the church, another organization, or a neighbor in need. As a first time visitor, we ask you to stop by our Welcome Kiosk in the gathering space to pick up our gift to you.
